Frontline Digital Nation Essay

In the last 50 years of staring at the TV numerous creators, pundit, and individuals when all is said in done has had a supposition on climate sitting in front of the TV is something worth being thankful for or a terrible thing. In two or three ongoing articles that I’ve read one Author Steven Johnson, who composed â€Å"Watching TV Makes You Smarter†. Lets us know of how rough and horrifying shows of this time are instead of shows of the past. Steven additionally lets us know of how there are some acceptable shows that really show individuals and causes them to learn in an alternate manner. The second article that I as of late read was â€Å"Thinking Outside The Idiot Box† by Dana Stevens. In addition to the fact that dana is a creator she is a paid TV pundit who expresses that TV doesn't make us any more brilliant and that TV is â€Å"brain-melting poison† for everything except particularly for youngsters. Dana demand that Steven Johnson hypothesis be scrutinized by having everybody participate in a National TV Turnoff Week occasion to check whether anybody gets any more idiotic. As I would see it Television has a wide range of purposes, for example, keeping us refreshed with the news, teaching us on various species/animal inside and outside our planet, however the principle reason for TV is soley for amusement. At the point when Television is being discussed whether it is positive or negative, I imagine that it ought to be thinking about similarly as some other subject we talk about when past/present is included, and that thought is â€Å"Evolution-Things always advancing or changing†. Take for request the manner in which nations would shield their territory. During the 1700s militaries battled with blades, in theâ 1800s militaries were present as well and battled with suppress rifles and one fired hand firearms in which were likely a cerebral pain to manage considering they could just shoot their weapon once and 2 stage procedure to reload the firearms, during the 1900s militaries battled with rockets, rockets, and atomic bombs and today militaries have culminated the rockets, rockets, and atomic bombs. â€Å"Evolution†, similarly as militaries have developed over the previous hundreds of years so has our regular day to day existence. On the off chance that you can recall when you was a pre-adulthood the things that you did and additionally thought about then, for example, playing outside with your companions constantly, getting low quality nourishment from the store, or simply living a joyful world generally. As a young person those puberty things become less imperative to you since you are likely into dating, driving, sports or some other sort of school movement. At the point when we became grown-ups the things that we once knew truly don't exist since we have advanced over the previous years. So for what reason would TV b any extraordinary? In 1939 when the Television was first presented the screen was highly contrasting and had no solid. Throughout the years TV got vivid, sound was included and the screen got greater. Presently TVs are in 3D enormous and level. In shows of today, for example, 24 and The Sopranos: Steven Johnson states how rough and grim the shows are and how the â€Å"Sleeper Curve† adjusts the psychological improvement of youngsters today since you need to coordinate unquestionably more data than you would have a practically identical TV show decades back. Dana Stevens accepts that shows, for example, 24 and The Sopranos are the â€Å" incredible jump forward in human discernment: multi-threading† Which causes watchers to carry on like â€Å"rats in a behaviorist maze†. I accept that individuals are qualified for watch whatever show they please on the grounds that that’s what TV is for â€Å"entertainment† subsequent to working a long move and going to class I like to return home and kick my feet up with the remote and watch Whatever show that I believe is speaking to me at the time whether it’s a parody, dramatization, awfulness, western, or sitcom. Steven Johnson additionally states in his article about shows related with â€Å"quality† amusement shows, for example, Murphy Brown and Frasierand how the knowledge shows up full fledged and the clever things that the entertainers state to each other to abstain from slipping by into a drained sitcom however says that â€Å"You no more test mind by viewing these wise shows than you challenge your body by watching Monday Night Football†. Steven likewise states how another broadcast insight is on the ascent that has subjective advantages attributed to perusing: consideration, persistence, and maintenance the parsing of account strings. Dana Stevens says shows, for example, The Teletubies which is a youngsters program trains little children the rudiments of vegging out. She likewise states how shows are â€Å"zapworthy† and sitting in front of the TV just instructs us to observe more TV. I state obviously TV makes you need to observe more TV however that is equivalent to in the event that you were perusing a decent book. In the wake of completing the book you need to peruse the spin-offs of that book in light of the fact that your consideration has been snared and you need to know how, when, and were it takes you. TV is a similar way however progressively visual. Other than TV is a multibillion dollar organization made by the watchers and only for the watchers. All in all I have kept in touch with you about the â€Å"Evolution† of our at various times society as it might be identified with the military, our regular day to day existences after some time, or whether it’s Television. Regardless as long the world twists then any/everything inside is liable to change and as this world change there will consistently be banters about that change. Some state and accept that Television makes individuals carry on with what they see on the screen into the real world. I am not one of those adherents since TV has just been around for a long time so what/who was the fault for the entirety of the savagery and debasement before TV was presented? I do anyway accept that no Ought to be permitted to or permit their youngsters to sit in front of the TV throughout the day, As I expressed prior its fundamental design is intended for amusement.

METHODS Study Design We conducted a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews with clinicians at a large academic medical center in the Northeast. Approval to conduct this study was obtained from the Dartmouth- Hitchcocks Medical Centers (DHMC) Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects. Participants and Recruitment We used a criterion-based sample of clinicians (n=58), including attending surgeons, house officers, clinical nurse leaders, respiratory therapists, registered nurses, and nurse assistants. The units where interviewees worked varied by several measurable characteristics, including primary surgical specialty, number of inpatient beds, and acuity of patient population. We purposefully sampled by clinician type, years of experience, and patient population to maximize diversity and generalize findings to a wider demographic. The hospitals site coordinators and nurse managers on the unit helped identify potential participants for the study based on interdisciplinary team composition. The study team contacted individuals directly for participation. We obtained consent from participants to record and transcribe their interview. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Semi-structured Interviews With Clinicians" essay for you Create order Data Collection Interviews were conducted between February and June 2017. A registered nurse trained in qualitative interview skills conducted all interviews, each lasting between 30 minutes to 1 hour on average. A semi-structured interview guide was developed based on a conceptual model developed by A.G., grounded in concepts of high reliability organizations and adapted from a 2014 study by Wakeam et. al..(8). The goal of the interview guide was to understand not only provider perceptions around rescue, but organizational influences on the rescue process and how that is conveyed to staff. The interview guide explored positive and negative influences of rescue (see Appendix A). All interviews were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data Analysis Interview transcripts were managed and analyzed using NVivo 11 qualitative software (QSR International). We conducted thematic analysis and consensus coding of verbatim transcripts. Analysis began with independently reading, highlighting, and annotating transcripts to identify patterns. We refined these patterns into a systematic list of codes (codebook) to describe the content of each data excerpt. After this initial development, the codebook was applied to a new transcript, and again refined by author consensus. After three iterations of codebook refinements, we reached thematic saturation as no new themes or patterns emerged. All transcripts were coded using the final codebook. We used a Framework Matrix approach to synthesize our coding and identify overarching themes that facilitate or impede the rescue process (9).

Are There Any Undiscovered Elements

Elements are the basic identifiable forms of matter. Have you ever wondered if there are any undiscovered elements or how scientists find new elements? Are There Any Undiscovered Elements? Although there are elements we have not yet created or found in nature, scientists already know what they will be and can predict their properties. For example, element 125 has not been observed, but when it is, it will appear in a new row of the periodic table as a transition metal. Its location and properties can be predicted because the periodic table organizes elements according to increasing atomic number. Thus, there are no true holes in the periodic table. Contrast this with Mendeleevs original periodic table, which organized elements according to increasing atomic weight. At that time, the structure of the atom was not as well-understood. There were true holes in the table  since elements werent defined as clearly as they are now. When elements of higher atomic number (more protons) are observed, its often not the element itself that is seen, but rather a decay product. Superheavy elements tend to be highly unstable. In that respect, even new elements arent always directly discovered. In some cases, insufficient amounts of the elements have been synthesized for us to know what the element looks like. Yet, the elements are considered to be known, are named, and are listed on the periodic table. There will be new elements added to the periodic table, but where they will be placed on the table is already known. For example, there wont be any new elements between hydrogen and helium or seaborgium and bohrium.

My First Step Of The Sociological Research Model - 972 Words

The first step of the sociological research model is to select a topic. In this case, my topic is extending the school day. My second step is to define the problem. I want to specifically learn if extending the school day would increase students’ overall process through a given school year. The third step is to review the literature. I will find books on the subject of an extended school day, read reports of school that have adopted this system, and search the Internet for accounts of individuals who have researched this topic. Next, I will formulate my hypothesis, which is: â€Å"Extending the school day will result in higher academic achievement and increased learning on the part of students.† Next, I will choose my research method. For my purposes, I think it would be best to choose an experiment, with one school serving as the experimental group and one as the control group. Next, I will collect the data. I must be sure to make sure the experiment measures what it i s supposed to measure. I need to determine the correct definition of academic achievement and determine how I will measure it. I will determine academic achievement based on letter grades that students receive on average. The seventh step is to analyze the results and test my hypothesis. The last step is to share the results. In this case, I might share my results by publishing them in an article or a journal. These rights help protect individual against oppression and illegal practices in relation to securing their life and rights of living. California’s direct democracy system is approached with high aggressiveness contrary to all other states. It gives the population free will of giving their unprecedented opinions collectively in choosing good governance rather than electing representatives. Its gives the people pure and preferred choice in passing executive motions, conducting trials, making laws, election of officials and dismissing errant officials. The Californian system of direct democracy has positive effects on the government, in that it protects grievances of the people majorly done by them. This type of government gives audience to all its residents and deals with each of their problems. Contrary, a representative government will only shed light to problems that affect particular areas especially when they ac crue vested interest. Such a government ensures that services are consumer friendly so as to reduce uproars from the population. When such a population decides to take on the streets for a demonstration, the whole economy is left at a stand still. The governor in California State has accrued extensive powers in running the state. He or she heads the executive branch, which includes lieutenant governor, attorney general, state secretary, state treasure and state controller. The governor has powers and responsibilities to sign laws passed by legislature, appoint judges, command state militia, propose state budget and grant pardons among others. These aspects grant the governor more powers than the legislature since he approves all the decisions and without his consent, they are doomed for failure. Provision of funds to state and local governments have given a boost to direct democracy in that the channels of communications are dropped to reach people at grass root levels. This idea at tributes many people in bringing out their opinions on possible castigations they are experiencing and end up with a rapport with the government. Similarly, local governments and states reduce the distance covered by people when they require services from the government. Funs provided are used to construct offices and support

Glass Ceiling Still Unshattered question wether or not there are Assignment

Glass Ceiling Still Unshattered question wether or not there are barriers to womens advancement in the firm. Please see below - Assignment Example Meanwhile, Deontological ethics demonstrate the need to employ and hire people of all genders without discrimination, and it is the duty of employers not to exercise such unethical acts as discriminating other genders. According to Bohlander and Snell (2009) women roles, abilities and prohibition from informal networks is a barrier to the success of women in the company, because men think women lack significant management and experience due to their commitments and family responsibilities. The company guidelines and practices affect the way women are treatment and form barriers for their advancement in the business line. Most executives often take advantage of their top position and harass women sexually in cases of promotions and job opportunities. Recently the company has made a progress in employing qualified women in different positions, but they still have problems in developing and advancing them into positions of senior management; this necessitates drastic improvement. In conclusion, the Corporate American working environment for women in the different position in business should reflect development, but regrettably, this is not the case. Glass Ceiling prejudices and discrimination will always affect women, but the company should make policies that advocate changes for women to improve their career development in the company irrespective of their sexual

Scarus opinion of Antony Essay Example for Free

Scarus opinion of Antony Essay Scarus explains that Antony left in the height of the battle to chase after Cleopatra. Scarus opinion of Antony is now that of a coward, we know this because he calls him a mallard; this is a wild duck that chases after the female, who in this case is Antony is going after Cleopatra.  Scarus then goes on to say that he had never seen such shame, which surprises him because it came from Antony, who has been described as a triple-pillar of the world. This is very significant because Antony shows how much love he has for Cleopatra. The fact that he would flea a battle at it most significant stage, to risk being called a coward, shows just how much he loves Cleopatra. And also, that he would leave a battle, and risk it being lost, just so he could go after Cleopatra, this shows how loyal he has become to both Cleopatra and Egypt.  Scarus says that the experience of great wars and battles, a mans pride and honour and a mans manhood, had never been violated in such a way before. The fact that he would leave a battle which Rome is fighting, a place that means so much to him, to chase after a woman, is so out of character, this shows his once great love for Rome is now a low priority compared to Cleopatra. Octavia, who is Antonys wife, is another main character of the play. She is associated with gentle, natural phenomena, which means crying in the play. It is also clear that Octavia highlights the nature and importance of the argument between Caesar. As Octavia is Antonys wife and naturally sees her goodness.  Also, Agrippa has an opinion of Octavia; it is that because she is so beautiful and elegant, she has managed to attract the best possible man. Agrippa also says:  Whose virtue and general graces speak.  Agrippa is saying that Octavia has qualities and virtues which no other woman has. Enobarbus also has an opinion of Octavia, he says;  Octavia is of a holy, cold, and still conversation.  He is saying that Octavia is boring and religious, which Enobarbus sees as being a downside to her personality. He says that she has still conversations, which means that she is quiet and does not speak much to others. Antony calls Octavia a swansdown feather, he is trying to imply that Octavia is like a feather on a river, and can not decide upon which way to go. Antony means that Octavia is weak against himself and she will agree or do anything that Antony says.  It is clear from Shakespeares play, that there are many opinions of Antony, some of which are good and in his favour and others that are bad and against him. However, there are characters in the play that have in one scene said nothing but good comments and later on in the play, say nothing but bad remarks about Antony, it may not always be clear what causes the characters to change their opinion, but it usually has something to do with Antonys love for Cleopatra. It is obvious that Antony is an excellent soldier and Roman, especially when it comes to wars and battles. But, when it comes to deciding upon Rome or his love life, he is not so certain, and is usually disliked for his decision by his fellow Roman soldiers.  Discuss the Importance of the Comments Made By Other Characters in the Presentation of Antony

The Loneliness of Hamlet :: Shakespeare Hamlet Essays

The Loneliness of Hamlet Hamlet was a lonely, isolated character, with few friends, and little faith in humanity. His loneliness played a great role in his downfall, by alienating him from his friends and family and eventually taking control of his actions. He did not share the knowledge of his father's murder or the appearance of the ghost with anyone. He couldn't even trust his friends and family, and he hid his true feelings from his only love, Ophelia, driving her to suicide. These events lead eventually to his downfall, and could have been avoided by sharing his dilemma. Two of Hamlets friends, Horatio and Marcellus, were standing watch at the castle one night when they witnessed the first apparition of the ghost of Hamlet's father. They decided to confide in their friend, and tell Hamlet of what had taken place. The following night, the three of them all stood watch to wait for the ghost. It appeared, and informed Hamlet that his uncle, Claudius, had murdered his father. Immediately following this, Hamlet declared that the event must be kept in secrecy "Never make known what you have seen tonight (I;v;144)." In order to prove the validity of the ghost, Hamlet would have to find proof of his father's murder, without sharing his ideas with anyone. He decided to make believe he was mad, so that the members of the king's court could excuse his behavior as he plotted his revenge. However, as he kept to himself, he became overwhelmed by his "madness" and fell into a deeper state of loneliness, ignoring those close to him, as he contemplated the value of l ife. "...it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth seems to me a sterile promontory; this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o'er hanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire-why it appears nothing to me but a foul and pestilent congregation of vapors...(II;ii;289)" As Hamlet tried to prove the murder of his father and have his revenge, Claudius discovered that Hamlet knew the truth. Claudius hired two of Hamlet's friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, to spy on Hamlet in secret, "...be even and direct with me whether you were sent for or no (II;ii;278-79)." Later on, Claudius and Polonius, the father of Ophelia, also spied on Hamlet when he was with Ophelia, trying to discover the cause of his madness "Ophelia, walk you here.

High School Life Essay

High school is a place where young teens learn to become mature and responsible. It is a place where students get trained to take on bigger challenges in life. Obstacles such as college. From my own personal experiences, high school didn’t seem that way. Students were more concerned about getting a passing grade then about what they were taught. They would even cheat their way out of high school. This would prepare them for college. My freshman year of high school, I was in a totally different place and it seemed quite interesting and fascinating at first. As the year passed by, I started to notice the techniques students were using to pass classes. It was something I didn’t see while I was in junior high school. Students were cheating on almost all the tests. They would bring little print-out cheat sheets to class to use on the tests. Hardly anyone got caught by the teacher. When students did get caught, all they would do is deny and usually the teacher would just let them get away with it. As Casey Banas wrote in â€Å"Why Students Are Turned Off?† â€Å"I sometimes estimated that half to two-thirds of a class cheated on a given test,’ Glanz said. ‘Worse, I’ve encountered students who feel no remorse about cheating but are annoyed that a teacher has confronted them on their actions† (Banas 659). Cheating seemed like the popular thing to do and if you didn’t cheat you would be considered real foolish.. Everyone in the class knew what was going on and it was basically a whole class effort to cheat. Students would discuss what the answers were before taking the test and give each other opinions on how to cheat safely. When the test came back, every student in the class would have a real close score, but the teachers didn’t seem to notice anything at all. Most of the students that go into a certain class usually wouldn’t even know what went on even after the class has ended. As Casey Banas wrote: â€Å"The teacher is convinced that the subject matter is worth knowing, but the student may not agree. Many students, Glanz said, are not convinced they need to know what teachers teach; but they believe good grades are needed to get into college†¦.(Banas 659) These kids could literally just sit there for forty-five minutes daydreaming. I find that many students feel the classes are extremely boring and is of no use to them in the future. I always used to ask myself â€Å"Why do I need to know this stuff for?†. When students feel this way, they don’t do the work because they don’t think they need it in life. When I used to go to high school, my whole class would get assignments and home works and about almost three-fourths of the class didn’t do it. Instead they would wait until someone who was paying attention and did do the assignment to come along and let them copy the assignment. They would do it in way that the teacher wouldn’t even know by slightly changing some words here and there. After that, that paper gets passed around the entire class to the students who didn’t do the assignment and everyone would have a slightly different paper. This way all the students hand in the assignment and will get a passing grade, but did they even learn anything?. These techniques that were used in the high school that I attended did work and a lot of students graduated from high school using these techniques. I, myself, used these techniques and got through my freshman year. As time went on I found that high school was really boring so I decided to cut and eventually dropped-out of school. These students got good grades and did all the assignments, but the truth is, they didn’t learn much at all. They can have a 85 average and get into a good college, but will they be prepared enough to survive college level work? I don’t think so.

Converse History The Story of the Iconic Chuck Taylors

Converse All Stars, also known as Chuck Taylors, are casual shoes that have played a significant role in pop culture for decades. Initially designed as a basketball shoe in the early 1900s, the soft cotton and rubber-soled style has remained largely unchanged for the last century. Did You Know? Chuck Taylors were the official shoe of the Olympic Games from 1936 to 1968. Meet Chuck Taylor Converse All Star sneakers were first released in 1917, and basketball star Charles â€Å"Chuck Taylor became a Converse shoe salesman in 1921. Within a year, he inspired a restyling of the brands basketball shoe, which led to the nickname Chuck Taylors. Converse also added Taylors signature and the all-star patch to the side of the shoe as a reference to the athlete who inspired them. During this period, the Converse All Star was primarily a basketball shoe, and Taylor advertised it as such. He traveled across the United States conducting basketball clinics in order to sell the athletic shoes. In fact, Converse All Stars were the official basketball shoe of the Olympic games for over 30 years. Later, during World War II, they were the official athletic shoe of the U.S. armed forces. Chuck Taylors became the choice shoe for general athletic events, from gym class to professional powerlifting. Converse Goes Casual By the end of the 1960s, Converse was responsible for 80% of the sneaker market as a whole. This shift to casual sneakers solidified Converse All Stars as a cultural icon of the people, not just the athletic elite. Though the initial Chucks were in the classic black and white, they became available in a litany of colors and designs as well as limited and special editions. The shoe also diversified its textures to be available in suede and leather along with the original cotton style. Converse All Stars began to lose their dominance in the 1970s when other shoes, many with better arch support, created competition. Soon, elite athletes stopped sporting All Stars. However, Chuck Taylors were quickly picked up by artists and musicians as a symbol of the underdog. The character Rocky Balboa wore Chucks in the movie Rocky, and the Ramones frequently sported Chucks because they were inexpensive. Elvis Presley, Michael Meyers, and Michael J. Fox all wore Chucks in their films, further marketing the sneaker as a shoe for young rebels. The cheap sneakers became a symbol of U.S. subcultures as the retro look fit the grungy style of the punk rock era. Nike Buys Converse Though Chuck Taylors were incredibly popular, Converse’s business was failing, leading to multiple claims of bankruptcy. In 2003, Nike Incorporated bought Converse for $305 million and recharged the business. Nike brought Converse’s manufacturing overseas, where the majority of other Nike products are produced. This move decreased the production costs and drove up Converse’s profits. Chuck Taylors Today High-top and low-top Chuck Taylors remain popular. In 2015, Converse released a collection of Chuck Taylors inspired by Andy Warhol—a significant choice, as Warhol is famous for his pop art depictions of U.S. popular culture. In 2017, the Chuck Taylor Low Top shoes were the second best selling sneaker in the U.S. and have historically consistently been within the top ten best sellers. The affordability of the shoe is a large part of its popularity, but the marketing and history of the sneakers as a facet of pop culture give it staying power.
